Summer

A 6 track experimental album (36m 20s) — released October 13th 2023 on Gusstaff Records

The trio Lotto consists of: Łukasz Rychlicki (Kristen), Mike Majkowski (Hailu Mergia Trio, Oren Ambarchi Hubris) and Paweł Szpura (Hera, Wovoka).

By publishing two completely different materials at the same time, they can cause considerable embarrassment to listeners and journalists or bloggers willing to pigeonhole and define them.

SUMMER

In May 2022, Lotto performed at the Spatif club in Warsaw and it was this concert that gave the impetus to the creation of the Summer album. At that time, the band was known for playing quite extreme sounds, the instrumentation was all electric, supplemented with synthesizers, and the drums were processed. This was a consequence of the sound contained on the previously released album - Hours After. Before the performance in Spatif, the musicians decided to make radical changes, something that had happened quite often in the history of the band. Instead of playing very loud and intense music again, which is what the audience expected, Lotto played a muted concert, with subdued, stagnant, disturbing music, at times on the verge of silence. Instrumentation had become much simpler, acoustic drums, double bass and guitar - as the only electric instrument. The concert went so well that the band decided to record similar music in the studio. In order to capture the appropriate atmosphere, a suitable room was needed, different from sterile, soundproofed studio rooms. The choice was the Kana Theater in Szczecin, a place known to the group, as they had performed there twice before. The large hall with natural reverberation suited the music climate very well. In the recording you can also hear ambient noises, e.g. life from neighboring offices or the sounds from the stairwell. Filip Marcinkowski, the band's friend, publisher of the Hours After album, became the recording engineer. The two-day session fell on record-breaking heat that year, the stifling atmosphere reflected in the music. After opening the theater gates, a strong heat wave hit. Neither night nor morning gave respite. A dormant city, standing still, with a stuffy and disturbing atmosphere, as if something strange was about to happen. This is more or less the music on the Summer album. Joe Talia, who lives in Australia and is known for his cooperation with, among others, musicians such as Oren Ambarchi and Jim O'Rourke, is responsible for mixing and mastering.
